LinkedIn and Twitter have announced they are teaming up to offer better social networking tools for businesses.
The partnership will allow users updating their status on LinkedIn to sync this with their Twitter feed. This should help increase the volume of users' followers well as making their updates more relevant for real time searches, according to the two companies.
The new venture was announced via LinkedIn’s blog with a video of both LinkedIn’s founder Reid Hoffman and Twitter’s co-founder Biz Stone discussing the deal.
“The business use case of twitter is turning out to be very important and more and more people are finding out that the persona that they create for themselves on the web is part of their résumé in many ways,” said Stone.
Hoffman added: “It’s the integration of the business side of the tweets on Twitter with the business ecosystem of LinkedIn which make the two work together.”
It is very simple to set up via the settings in your LinkedIn account. A user just needs to enter their Twitter account details and can click on individual statuses as to whether they wish to share it on Twitter or not. You can also hashtag statuses with #LI or #IN to make the connection.
Playfully called “Twitter In” by the two founders, Stone concluded: “It’s like bringing the peanut butter and the chocolate together to make the perfect combination.”
