Anyone still running the Windows 7 release candidate (RC) rather than a fully paid for version will face automated shutdowns every two hours from today, Microsoft has warned.
The release candidate is the version between the last beta and the final edition being released, so the code is nearly perfect. To encourage users to upgrade to the full version of the new operating system, the Windows 7 RC will start shutting down every two hours and not save your work.
Microsoft is urging customers to ditch the Windows 7 Release Candidate as the software nears its expiry date.
Although the Windows 7 RC officially expires 1 June, users will be hit with bi-hourly shutdowns from 1 March, making it impractical for day-to-day use.
Mozilla has admitted that Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 4 will miss their slated release dates.
Firefox 3.6 was originally set to launch by the end of December, but despite the release of five betas, Mozilla has been unable to iron out the bugs in time.
The browser has now been pushed back until the first quarter 2010, according to the Mozilla Wiki.
Windows 7 has become the biggest grossing pre-order product ever at Amazon.co.uk, according to the online retailer.
Amazon was among the select few retailers that began selling Windows 7 on pre-order back in July, offering the Home Premium version for as little as £45.
It now claims the operating system has racked up more pre-order sales than other big hitters, such as the Harry Potter novels and the Nintendo Wii.
Microsoft has revealed that Office and SharePoint 2010 will hit public beta in November.
"The public beta will open November. We don't have a specific date, we'll be announcing that much closer to the launch, but we're on track to deliver [Office and Sharepoint 2010] in the first half of 2010," Steve Marsh, SharePoint's UK Product Manager said.
Microsoft has announced a free, ad-supported version of Office 2010 that will ship with new PCs.
Office 2010 Starter Edition is a "reduced-functionality" version of the Office suite offering only Word and Excel, and "a simple path to upgrade to a fully-featured version of Office 2010 directly from within the product."

Microsoft is planning to make Windows 8 an 128-bit operating system, according to details leaked from the software giant's Research department.
The discovery came to light after Microsoft Research employee, Robert Morgan, carelessly left details of his work on the social-networking site, LinkedIn.
New versions of Firefox will warn users if their version of the Adobe Flash Player plugin is out-of-date.
After downloading the next Firefox release in 3.5.3 or 3.0.1.4, users with out-of-date versions of Flash will be presented with a message saying “you should update Adobe Flash right now”, together with a link to the free update on Adobe’s website.
Windows 7 is already installed on more than 1% of the world's PCs, even though it hasn't been officially launched.
The figures come from net metrics company NetApplications, which shows that the forthcoming Windows OS broke through the 1% barrier for the first time in August.
They might now be rivals, but Mozilla has given its colleagues at Google a helping hand by uncovering a serious flaw in the Chrome browser.
The security hole in Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine would have allowed attackers to run arbitrary code within the Chrome browser. Google has now patched the hole, and credited Mozilla's Security team for discovering the flaw on the Chrome Releases blog.
